Label: 17 North Parade | VP Records
Produced by: George Phang
Composed by: Bernard Collins | Donald Manning | Linford Manning
Release date: 09/12/2025

One of Jamaica’s greatest voices, Al Campbell joins forces with producer George Phang and Riddim Twins Sly & Robbie for a previously unreleased early 1980s update of The Abyssinians 1970 Studio One classic “Declaration Of Rights.” Originaly written by Bernard Collins and inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The lyrics were so powerful that they inspired Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Get Up Stand Up.” While Campbell’s version is relatively obscure, it shows the staying power of a great composition and illustrates the transition from the early reggae era to the technologically advanced studio sounds of the early 80s. Released as part of VP’s ongoing high-definition master tape series.
