Biography
Akae Beka is a roots reggae band from Saint Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, formed in 2015 by members of the acclaimed group Midnite. The group was led by the late Vaughn Benjamin, a powerful and prolific vocalist known for his spiritual and socially conscious lyrics. The name Akae Beka is derived from the Book of Enoch, symbolizing divine judgment and commitment, and marked a new chapter following revelations and personal transformation within the band.
Akae Beka made their live debut on July 17, 2015, in Denver, Colorado, in a performance that honored Nelson Mandela Day. Their first album, *Homage to the Land*, was released later that year through Fifth Son/VPAL Music. The project was praised for its deep roots sound and powerful messages, establishing Akae Beka as a continuation of the Midnite legacy, but with renewed spiritual intensity and global consciousness.
Between 2015 and 2019, Akae Beka released a series of acclaimed albums including *Portals*, *Livicated*, and *JahSayDo*, collaborating with respected producers and musicians across the reggae world. The group maintained the core essence of roots reggae while elevating it with Vaughn Benjamin’s signature lyrical depth and mysticism. Their live performances captivated audiences worldwide, offering meditative and trance-like experiences grounded in Rastafarian values and Afro-Caribbean spirituality.
After the passing of Vaughn Benjamin on November 4, 2019, the legacy of Akae Beka has lived on through posthumous releases like *Protocols* and ongoing global recognition. His voice and message continue to inspire a movement rooted in consciousness, justice, and spiritual elevation, solidifying Akae Beka’s place as one of the most influential forces in modern roots reggae.
