Biography
Cholita makes music deeply rooted in the rich history of Jamaican music, yet designed to resonate far beyond the island. Drawing from a kaleidoscope of influences: dancehall, contemporary R&B, hip hop, pop, indie and Latin, she creates a sonic language that feels hypnotic, sensual and defiant.
Raised in Kingston by a Jamaican father immersed in the country’s music industry and a Peruvian mother connected to Lima’s jazz scene, music was never simply a backdrop for Cholita. It was a way of life. Her sound carries that heritage naturally, blending Jamaican rhythms and sound-system culture with a distinctly personal perspective.
Whether experienced alone in a bedroom or in the middle of a sweaty dance floor, her songs land with visceral power. Anchored by deep low-end and polyrhythmic syncopation, they balance physical movement with lyrical intimacy, creating music that feels both immediate and deeply considered.
Still early in her journey, Cholita already sounds like an artist with a clear point of view, weaving heritage, instinct and a restless curiosity into songs that move.
