Biography
Born and raised in Trench Town, Jamaica, Dahvid Slur grew up surrounded by music and the rich reggae heritage of his community. Influenced by his parents, brother and the sounds around him, his connection to music started early. At Trench Town High School, he sang in the choir and learned guitar and steel pans, shaping the musician he would become.
Growing up reserved, Dahvid often found himself observing more than speaking. It made him attentive to the people and life around him, something that continues to influence his music today.
Dahvid’s music is rooted in traditional reggae but speaks from the perspective of a young artist growing up in modern-day Kingston. Songs like “Redemption” and “Give It Your All” reflect the hope, resilience and determination that run through much of his music, while “Cyah Kill Rasta”, his collaboration with the late Jo Mersa Marley from the New Age Rockaz EP, has become a fan favorite.
His music reflects the realities around him, with a sense of optimism and purpose always at its core. That connection to reggae’s history is also close to home. His father would tell him stories of seeing Ken Boothe around the community, while the heritage of Bob Marley and Trench Town’s place in reggae history have always been part of the environment that shaped him.
Rooted in Rastafari and shaped by his community, Dahvid Slur represents a new generation of Jamaican reggae, carrying the music’s foundation forward through his own experiences and perspective.
