Biography
Solid, aggressive, and deeply soulful, Gomba Jahbari is a powerhouse roots reggae band from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Comprising seven talented musicians, their name—meaning "brave warrior" in a southern African dialect—perfectly captures their mission: to challenge, uplift, and enlighten their listeners. Though their sound is rooted firmly in classic reggae traditions, it's their powerful, thought-provoking lyrics that truly set them apart. Lead singer, songwriter, and drummer Carmelo Romero describes their music as “cultural music, born from the African traditions carried to the Caribbean, and now a voice for the realities of marginalized communities.” For Gomba Jahbari, reggae is more than music—it's the living newspaper of social, political, and spiritual life, resonating from Puerto Rico to audiences around the world.
