Biography
Pablo YG, born Romeo Hines in 2004, is a Jamaican recording artist who has rapidly established himself as one of dancehall’s rising talents. Since releasing his debut single, “Ready”, in 2020, he has steadily built momentum, breaking through to a wider audience following his performance at Jamaica’s renowned Sting Concert in late 2022.
In the months that followed, Pablo YG’s profile grew significantly. His YouTube channel surpassed 40 million views, while he was featured in a fashion campaign for the Supreme x Clarks collaboration. He also delivered one of dancehall’s standout songs of the year with “Rich N Richer”, featured on his 14-track debut project, Bad Juvi Mixtape.
Raised in Shaw Park, a town on Jamaica’s northern coast also known as “Crimetop,” Hines developed his identity both on and off the football pitch. He earned the nickname “Pablo” in high school after a teacher compared his football skills to Argentine midfielder Pablo Aimar. The “YG” name comes from his father, Mr. Groove, a singer who played an important role in inspiring his son to pursue music.
Before gaining national recognition, Pablo YG built a strong local following by performing at successive editions of Crimetop’s Annual Treats. In early 2020, he entered the studio with producer Spinaz YG Muzik, recording “Ready” over the Wildside Riddim and officially beginning his recording career.
With Spinaz YG Musik and YGF Records behind his development, Pablo YG continued to expand his catalog with singles including “Sauce Gad,” “Changes,” and “Postmortem.” His growing reputation also led to collaborations with some of dancehall’s biggest names, including Skillibeng on “Galore,” Valiant on “Motorsport,” and 450 on “Gyal Magnet.”
His biggest breakthrough to date came with “Rich N Richer”, a soulful track centered on resilience, ambition, and the determination to succeed. The song continued gaining momentum months after its release, resonating with millions of listeners and further establishing Pablo YG as a distinctive voice in the new generation of Jamaican dancehall.
With his rapid rise, growing catalog, and high-profile collaborations, Pablo YG entered 2024 with significant momentum and a growing international audience.
