Dougy & Dub Disciple – Familia / Igniter (2024) 7”

Label: Boomshakalak Records
Release date: 02/09/2024

“FAMILIA / IGNITER” is the first collaborative single from Dougy (Bordeaux, France), featuring Dutch producer Dub Disciple (Nijmegen, The Netherlands), and marks the inaugural release on Boomshakalak Records. The single represents a hands-on collaboration between the French reggae singer/songwriter and Dutch producer Dub Disciple, along with Dutch label boss Jimmy Spliff Fiyah of Boomshakalak Records. The concept and recording took place during 2021, showcasing a hint of ‘west coast g-funk’ within a unique reggae dub digital production. The double-sided single delivers two powerful songs in a distinctive style. Dougy brings his flow and vocals to convey a message of unity and togetherness.

Dub Disciple‘s work on the beat ensures a loud and heavy sound.

Familia:
This song revolves around the theme of family, asserting that staying righteous in one’s way of living and thinking shields against harm. It also encourages people to join the family and live together side by side. These values are shared by Boomshakalak, Dub Disciple, and Dougy. The release includes a music video featuring the artist and the entire Boomshakalak crew, created by visual artist Jeroen Bevers. He filmed the making of the street art used for the artwork, done by Naamlooozz & R.W. Visser, which can be visited in Nijmegen. (The location code is provided on the sleeve of the also available 7″ vinyl.)

Igniter: This song serves as a party anthem designed to engage everyone, encouraging them to let loose and give their all on the dance floor. It also emphasizes Dougy‘s commitment to live performances. The lyrics chant about igniting the fire on the dance floor, propelled by swift and stylish flows, a feat achieved with the powerful tune from Dub Disciple. A lyrics video clip is also being released alongside this.
