Dub FX & Mr Woodnote – OPEN SECRET SOCIETY (2025) Album

Label: 3rd Eye Q
Release date: 08/20/2025

After years of collaborating on the street, in the studio and on the stage, DUB FX and WOODNOTE, have joined together for their debut full-length collaborative album, “Open Secret Society.” Every track blends DUB FX‘s melodic vocals and WOODNOTE‘s dynamic brass arrangements over heavy beats and warm baselines. The album’s sound is a fusion of Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, Afro, and DnB, a result of the duo’s long history in various bands and their shared passion for bass culture and festival music. The creative process was organic, with the pair often just “sitting around a piano or an MPC.” Many of the brass parts were recorded spontaneously while on the road or in their home studios in Bristol and Lisbon, giving the music an authentic, live feel.

“Open Secret Society” is a truly international project, featuring a diverse lineup of talented artists. The album includes a wide array of vocalists, such as Tiki Taane (NZ), Alais Clay (Colombia), Prezence (USA), Cade (Australia), and DUB FX‘s wife, Sahida Apsara (Singapore). The project features a truly global lineup of notable musicians, including producer and bass player Paolo Baldini (Italy) and producer and keys player Mista Savona (Australia). The duo’s longtime friends and favourite musicians, trumpeter Astro Perger (AUS) and drummer Stevie One Drop (AUS), as well as an exceptional contribution from Italian violist Clara Costa, with each artist bringing their unique energy to give the album its genuinely collaborative sound.

In a move that highlights their frustration with the music industry, the artists have chosen not to release the album on Spotify. Citing concerns over the platform’s financial practices and the rise of AI-generated music, they are asking fans to support them directly by purchasing the album on Bandcamp, which offers the best deal for artists. The album is also available on Vinyl, CD, and other digital platforms. DUB FX and WOODNOTE will be touring their new album across Europe from September to December 2025, with featured artist Prezence joining them for the live shows. A range of merchandise will be available, and the artists will be doing signings after each show.
