In the back room of a music venue in the Dordogne, Marina P and Eeyun Purkins are in deep conversation. Talking about the world as they see it. Not the world on the television tube or cinema screen but the world from the streets of their respective cities, from Paris to Bristol. They trade snapshots of the launderettes, the bars, the bike rides home and the warzones at home and abroad. Speaking from the perspective of the moonlighters and the anti-fascists, those fighting the mafia rule and the gentrification of their neighbourhoods. If you were to stumble upon this meeting of minds you would be forgiven for assuming that the producer and the singer were old time friends. But in fact this was the pair’s first encounter in the flesh and one that would inspire the brand new album from Marina P & The Co-Operators ‘Know Nothing About’.

Five years have passed since her last album and Marina is back with the next chapter of her musical journey. This time accompanied by Bristol based studio band The Co-Operators and producer Eeyun Purkins. The vintage tone that The Co-Operators have become known for is the perfect backdrop for the Italian singers jazz & blues infused reggae stylings. The world has been patiently waiting for Marina to deliver a full album with live instrumentation and The Co-Operators are the band to help her deliver. Analog sounds recorded and mixed live and direct. The old fashioned way.

Produced over the course of a year between Paris and Eeyun’s Waggle Dance Studios in Bristol. The ideas flowed through countless phone calls and voice notes. A true labour of love for all involved. A mission to contribute a voice from the underground to the aural tradition of their time.

Much like the stories that weave a patchwork tale across both sides of this record the music knits a narrative of its own. Journeying between up tempo ska, rootsy reggae, smooth rocksteady and even a soul ballad to close the album.
