Prince Jammy’s 1979 “Kamikazi Dub” is one of the best dub projects ever recorded. The use of Casio in this album is simply splendid, gives it a strange, ethereal, almost tranquil to the point drugged vibration. The entire album is highly thematic and does accomplish its aim of feeling heavily oriental, with a laid-back and still industrious and busy feel.

The album begins calmly with Throne of Blood, and then transitions to the devout and disciplined “Brothers of the Blade” feeling decisive and actionous. The album only continues to deepen from here. We now find ourselves meandering through the crowded city streets through highly electronic and echoing beats as though through alleyways filled with people and salesmen. And suddenly we have arrived at the titular Shaolin Temple. The album continues in its tranquil and yet seemingly danger-filled and treacherous episodes, and truly paints a unique and poignant scene.
