“Humble Me” is not only the first Tóke release of the new year, but also works well as a mantra for this time! This fresh and uptempo one-drop song with a very catchy hook could prove just the right motivation to keep going and gain perspective when we need to remember our worth.
With a mix of courage, gratefulness, and melancholy, Tóke conveys a message of humility, gained throughout the journey of life. The lyrics are supported by a sonic blend of organic sounds and a deep synthesizer bass, warming the listener’s heart and ears.
Tóke is an Indonesian-German artist, born in Jakarta, Indonesia and raised in the suburbs of Hamburg, Germany. After spending some time in Jamaica he released his debut EP in 2014 before moving to Berlin. That’s where Tóke met Berlin-based producer Jon Moon and the two over time became not only colleagues, working together in the studio and on stage, but friends as well. So it was really only a matter of time until a first co-production.
The foundation for “Humble Me” was written spontaneously in a studio session: Tóke, Jon Moon, Inti and Giuseppe “BigFinga” Coppola met at Planet Earth Studios in Berlin. Jon Moon started building a riddim in the kitchen, and once the vibe was there went into the studio with Tóke to start recording. “BigFinga” picked up the tempo, went to his studio and returned half an hour later with drum stems. And so the song quickly fell into place like it was meant to be – a truly humbling experience for the artist and the producer!
