A melting pot of roots, steppas, dubstep and folk traditions, “Twisted Roots” moves from slow, psychedelic one-drop rhythms to heavier, uptempo sounds while bringing Scottish musical heritage into conversation with traditions from Appalachia, India and beyond. The result is a record that feels expansive without losing the identity at the heart of An Dannsa Dub: ancient Scottish instruments and melodies meeting heavy bass, modern production and a global soundsystem sensibility.

“Twisted Roots” explores connection, resilience, identity, freedom and cultural exchange. From the roots-and-culture message of the opener to the traditional Gaelic song “Cò Nì Mire Rium”, the Appalachian-inspired “Trials & Tribulations”, and the liberation-minded “Born To Be Free”, the album continually returns to the idea that music can carry tradition forward rather than simply preserve it.
